Play a key role in transforming the way homes are made as Cover’s first strategic sourcing hire. Drive selection and oversight of its network of outsourced supply chain partners, including suppliers of raw materials, standard components, custom components, subassemblies, and outsourced manufacturing processes. As Strategic Sourcing Manager, you will be responsible for cost, quality, delivery, and terms for each purchased material/service, leading cross-functionally across other departments such as quality engineering, purchasing, planning, engineering.
In addition to the immediate sourcing and vendor management responsibilities, this position is expected to contribute to the maturity of the overall function. This includes creating and refining processes, tools and templates that can be applied to across all vendors and categories worldwide.
Develop supply chain and commodity strategies ensuring suppliers are capable of meeting Cover’s current and future technical and business requirements
Identify new suppliers, conduct RFPs, define evaluation criteria, and negotiate terms/contracts to select new partners, in collaboration with engineering, design, quality and other functions
Manage suppliers (including defining and implementing supplier reporting) to ensure strong performance across cost, quality, delivery, and service. Act as escalation path and owner for any issue with a supplier, including technical issues.
Oversee capacity/volume scale-up at each critical supplier, including addition of new equipment, labor and facilities as needed.
Drive competitive pricing from suppliers, both initial pricing and ongoing cost reductions, including utilizing “should-cost models”.
Determine appropriate volume allocation between suppliers where relevant.
Collaborate across the Cover organization to ensure business objectives are met. Includes the ability to rapidly synthesize and communicate findings to senior leaders and to actively identify potential supply issues that can affect product strategy.
Maintain expertise/knowledge of market trends including analysis of market drivers, cost structures, technical improvements and competitive landscape.
Drive improved business cash flows and flexibility through supplier terms.
Facilitate engagement between suppliers and engineering related to addition of new products and features.
Travel periodically to supplier’s manufacturing sites to oversee performance, as needed
5+ years of industry experience working in Strategic Sourcing across both standard and custom components. Experience overseeing subassemblies or final assembly/contract manufacturers is preferred.
Experience as ultimate business owner for a given commodity category, possessing a complete understanding of internal and external variables that impact the category.
Experience across entire product lifecycle, including prototype, NPI, sustaining and end of life.
Bachelor's degree in engineering, supply chain management, finance, business administration or related discipline. MBA or other advanced degree is a plus
Demonstrated history of building productive relationships with suppliers and enabling suppliers to reach higher levels of performance.
Significant experience selecting new suppliers, including issuing RFPs and leading negotiations of master services agreements.
Demonstrated ability to rapidly scale-up production volumes with suppliers, under aggressive deadlines. Prior start-up experience preferred.
