Head of Manufacturing

Overview

Cover's mission is to make thoughtfully designed and well-built homes for everyone. For the first time ever, we've made the production of unique homes scalable using our proprietary software and panelized building system. We've developed product and have started delivering units. This is an opportunity spearhead production ramp up and lead product improvement in a fast-growing company disrupting the home building industry – an industry with little change in the last 100 years and the potential to have a massive impact on people's lives.

Role

Hands-on role developing and implementing production processes to meet aggressive production targets. You are both a leader, and a strong individual contributor with a get-it-done attitude.

Lead the setup and commissioning of Cover's production line; create detailed documentation of the manufacturing process, specify and source equipment and fixtures, train technicians, and design and implement QA and QC processes.

Aggressively drive product improvements to improve quality, manufacturability, assemblability, robustness, and cost, working closely with Cover's multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers, and architects.

Experience

Education in mechanical engineering.

5+ years of work experience in manufacturing.

Experience planning production, sourcing equipment, and leading the commissioning of a new manufacturing facility or manufacturing line for complex large scale products (automotive, aerospace, rail, or shipbuilding experience preferred).

Experience leading the development of new manufacturing and assembly processes.

Experience working closely with suppliers to evaluate their capabilities, and implement QA and QC.

Skills

Proven ability to setup manufacturing for new products on demanding schedules.

Ability to prioritize, and identify bottlenecks and implement improvements.

Strong understanding of tolerance stackups and datum scheme design,

Strong understanding of material properties including structural performance, durability, and corrosion resistance.

Proficiency in mechanical assembly (press fits, adhesive bonding, fastener selection).

Architect

Overview

Transform the quality of the spaces people live in by developing the details of Cover's building system, in a way that enables uncompromising design, repeatable and scalable manufacturability, and rapid on-site assembly. 

Role

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to define product requirements, conceptualize solutions, design, engineer,  prototype, and validate them in a fast paced cycle, to improve on and expand the capabilities of Cover’s cutting edge building system. Take an idea, to a tested physical prototype in hours or days, not months and years.

Systematize the way Cover's building system interacts with various site conditions.

Work closely with mechanical engineers and architects to develop the manufacturing, transportation, and on-site assembly processes.

Work with Cover's software team to create automated workflows to streamline the design, permitting, and manufacturing processes.

Experience

5+ years of experience designing, permitting, and overseeing the construction of modern, extraordinarily well detailed architecture.

Experience designing custom high performance building details and communicating with engineers, contractors, and fabricators to ensure successful implementation.

Knowledgeable on California building codes.

Skills

Ability to learn new skills quickly, and synthesize new information and ideas to create innovative solutions on demanding schedules.

Strong understanding of material properties and basic machining and fabrication skills. This is a hands-on role, you will be expected to build mockups and prototypes in our 10,000 sq.ft. production facility.

Ability to quickly learn new software tools. Experience with Rhino, Grasshopper, Onshape, Catia, or Solidworks is a plus.

Growth Marketing Manager

Overview

As a Growth Marketing Manager at Cover and an early member of the team, you’ll play a pivotal role in making thoughtfully designed and well-built homes for everyone by communicating Cover’s mission, process, and product to the world.

Role

You’ll report directly to the CEO of Cover and work closely with the founders to clearly communicate Cover’s mission, process, and product to relevant audiences. We focus on meaningful interactions, and communication.

You will be responsible for generating quality leads at the top of the funnel via paid and organic acquisition where you will be tracking, testing, and optimizing our customer acquisition marketing mix. Secondarily, you will oversee and/or collaborate with others to execute other marketing areas such as email, content, brand, partnerships and design. 

You will update the team on key metrics that generate revenue and provide strategic recommendations for growth.

You will have a high amount of responsibility and autonomy, and will be expected to own and perfect all elements of Cover’s marketing focused primarily on acquisition while overseeing all other marketing responsibilities.

Experience

4 + years in a marketing role with a high degree of responsibility, preferably at a startup or high-growth company (b2c customer acquisition of one-time or other large purchases especially relevant).

Proven track record of creating and managing measurably successful paid digital campaigns campaigns from scratch.

Experience developing content that generates engagement and top of the funnel growth.

Overview

Role

You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary team of architects, designers, and engineers to develop robust web applications that are at the core of Cover’s process. You’ll create and improve apps that our clients use to configure, visualize, and understand their designs and Cover’s unique building process. You’ll also develop backend tools that enhance our design, marketing, support, and manufacturing workflows.

You’ll have a high amount of responsibility and autonomy, and will be expected to own and perfect all elements of new web features, from DB to UI.

You’ll also help recruit more top tier engineers to the Cover team.

Experience

3 or more years of end-to-end software development experience including deploying, scaling, and monitoring production-grade web applications.

Experience working at 2 or more software-focused organizations.

Structural Engineer

Licensed PE in California

Overview

Play a pivotal role in shaping the structure and connections of Cover's building system, creating and streamlining the design, engineering, permitting, and assembly process for the most precise, efficient, and high performance low-rise residential building system in the world.

Role

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team of software developers, automotive engineers, architects, and designers to develop Cover’s structural panels to achieve large spans with thin profiles, and develop the panel-to-panel structural connections.

Work as part of Cover's building system team and with contractors to improve the speed and quality of Cover's on-site assembly process.

Work closely with Cover’s software team to streamline the workflow for generating permit and construction ready documents.

Experience

Structural engineering experience on innovative projects. Experience working with prefabricated building methods is a plus.

Experience working with light gauge steel construction is a plus.

Knowledgeable on California’s building codes. Experience working with multiple local jurisdictions to prepare and obtain building permits for new construction.

Skills

Solid understanding of material properties and basic machining and fabrication skills (welding, sawing, drilling, milling).

Prototype Lead

Overview

Play a pivotal role in developing Cover’s innovative panelized building system to make high quality homes for everyone.

Role

Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of architects, designers, and engineers to fabricate and test prototypes of novel building components and assemblies on tight product development schedules.

Be responsible for introducing and maintaining equipment to our 10,000 sq.ft. pilot production facility.

You will have a large amount of responsibility and autonomy, and will be expected to contribute to product development with constructive feedback on product design and fabrication processes.

Experience

Experience with metal and wood fabrication at various scales.

Experience fabricating solid surface components, plastics, and fabrics is a plus.

Experience preparing CAM files and operating a CNC.

Shop management experience.

Skills

An obsessive attention to detail and a passion for tools and craft.

Incredibly resourceful - you can independently research, assess, and acquire quality new and used tools, equipment, and parts.

Work closely with manufacturing engineers and architects to develop the manufacturing, transportation, and on-site assembly processes.

Experience

2 or more years of experience designing and engineering air/watertight connectors and details as well as structural systems (chassis/fuselage) in the automotive, rail, aerospace, or shipbuilding industries.

Experience in design for manufacturability and design for assembly of complex products, working on both product development and manufacturing throughout the product lifecycle.

Experience leading or playing a key role in the development and introduction of a new product.

Skills

Solid understanding of material properties including structural performance, durability, and corrosion resistance.

Proficiency in mechanical assembly (press fits, adhesive bonding, fastener selection).

Strong machining and fabrication skills with an exceptional attention to detail and an understanding of tolerances in manufacturing and assembly.
